Art Lacey’s B-17G, christened the “Lacey Lady”, Milwaukie, Oregon, circa 1947

Lacey was a pilot and gasoline station owner, and went on a quest to buy a retired war plane to advertise his business. His search took him to the U.S. Air Force’s Altus Air Base in Oklahoma. After some convincing, the use of a mannequin as a co-pilot, a crash landing, $13,750, and an encounter with a mountain, he landed B-17G serial number 44-85790 in Troutdale Airport, near Portland - and transported it by road to it’s resting place.
