The Air-Tractor sledge, used in the 1911–14 Australasian Antarctic Expedition. A stripped-down Vickers R.E.P. Type Monoplane which the expedition leader, Douglas Mawson, had hoped to fly in the Antarctic before it crashed during a test flight.
The air-tractor was abandoned during the expedition, with Mawson returning the frozen engine. The remnants were rediscovered recently, just under a hundred years later..
